The Weaver

My life is but a weaving
Between my Lord and me.
I cannot choose the colors;
He worketh steadily.

Oftimes he weaveth sorrow,
And I in foolish pride
Forget he sees the upper,
And I the underside.

Not 'til the loom is silent
And the shuttles cease to fly,
Shall God unroll the canvas
And explain the reason why.

The dark threads are as needful
In the Weaver's skillful hand,
As the threads of gold and silver
In the pattern He has planned.

Tapestry of Love

"I want you woven into a tapestry of love, in touch with everything there is to know of God."
Colossians 2:2 (The Message)

This paraphrase of Paul's words to the Colossian church is so beautiful. It brings to mind a lovely tapestry, woven with beautiful, deep, rich colors. A tapestry so beautiful, that when you lay your eyes on it, you have to have it, no matter what the cost. That is what Paul is telling the Colossian Church; they should allow themselves to be woven into this tapestry of God's love, so that those around them can see them united in God's love. They, in turn, will want to be part of that beautiful tapestry, too. It is God's transforming love that is our eternal common thread. Without it, we would not be united into this beautiful tapestry. That's the way it is with God's love. It is so full of grace, it cannot but bind us to each other as we experience its eternal embrace. The tapestry that the Master Weaver is designing is beyond anything imaginable, for He is taking the most common of threads and by twisting them together with the golden strand of Christ has made a thread that is breathtaking! That's what Christ has done for us; taken us from the common to the uncommon, from being unworthy to being worthy. It is only because of Him that we are beautiful. As we are woven into this tapestry of God's love and we come in touch with others there, we share what He has done in our lives. The more we share our stories, the more we learn of God and His grace. O Lord, weave me into your tapestry of love, that I might be in touch with everything there is to know of you! Amen
