Our Refuge...
"Keep me safe, O God, for in you I take refuge." Psalm 16:1
David's life was far from peaceful. His life was full of turmoil, but he trusted that God would keep him safe. He knew that no matter what came his way he had a place to go for shelter and comfort. He knew that God was in control of his life and that nothing would happen to him except it be God's will. All he had to do was take refuge in him. Some of David's troubles occurred when he tried to fix things himself, and when he walked away from that refuge what a mess he made! We, too, will make a mess of our lives when we try to do things ourselves and don't seek Him and His refuge. When we take refuge in God, there is nothing that will come our way that will harm us. We will not be free from pain, but when the storms of life come our way, we have a place to go for shelter and comfort. The rain may be pelting and the lightning flashing, but in the arms of a loving Father, we are safe.
Father, we take refuge in you today. Keep us safe. Help us to take refuge in you in all areas of our lives. Keep us from attempting to fix things on our own. We know what a mess we make of things when we do that, but we are so stubborn and we persist. Thank you for your mercy and for never giving up on us. Thank you for the shelter you give us. Wrap us in your loving arms and keep us safe. Amen
